Bookyard is free to use. Bookyard Plus is an optional subscription, sold through the App Store and Google Play, that removes the free plan's limits. This page explains what is free, what Plus adds, how billing works, how to cancel, and where refunds are handled.
What is free, and what Plus adds
Borrowing, lending and groups are free and never limited. So are your readers' reading history, notifications, and getting a copy of your data. Nothing that is free today will be moved behind a payment later.
On the free plan, a library can hold up to:
- 100 books of its own (borrowed books and lost ones do not count);
- 3 readers;
- 5 cover scans a day, shared by everyone who manages the library.
Bookyard Plus removes these limits, and any extras we add to Plus later come with it. The price and the renewal period are shown in the app, in your own currency, before you confirm anything. What that screen says when you subscribe is the offer you get.
Who pays, and who it covers
Plus belongs to the user who owns the library, and covers that library. Everyone who manages it with them has Plus while they are in it, and only the owner can buy it. A subscription counts on every device you sign in on, on either store, through your Bookyard account.
If you join someone else's library, your own is paused but your subscription keeps running; the app tells you before you join. Cancel it in the store if you no longer need it.
Founding members
The first 50 users to sign up get 12 months of Plus free, as a thank-you for coming early. It asks for no payment details and ends on its own: nothing is charged when it ends, and the app reminds you a month and a week before. We may pause founding places at times, for example while a new version is reviewed by a store; a sign-up during a pause does not get one.
How billing works
- Payment is taken by Apple or Google, through your store account. We never see or store your card details.
- The subscription renews automatically at the end of each period until you cancel.
- The store charges you up to 24 hours before the current period ends.
- Prices include any tax the store collects on our behalf.
- RevenueCat tells our servers whether your subscription is active.
Cancelling
Cancel at any time in your store's subscription settings: on an iPhone, Settings → your name → Subscriptions; on Android, Google Play → Payments & subscriptions → Subscriptions. Cancelling stops the next renewal; you keep Plus until the end of the period you have paid for. To avoid being charged again, cancel at least 24 hours before it ends.
Deleting your account does not cancel your subscription, because the store holds it, not us. Cancel it in the store first.
What happens when it ends
Nothing is deleted, hidden or locked. If your library holds more than the free plan allows, every book and reader stays exactly where it is and can still be lent, borrowed and read. The only change is that adding more is refused until you are back under the limit, or back on Plus.
Refunds
Because the store takes the payment, the store issues refunds. We cannot refund a purchase ourselves. Ask Apple at reportaproblem.apple.com, or Google through Google Play's order history, and their own policy applies.
If you are in the EU, the UK, or anywhere else with a legal right to cancel a digital purchase within a cooling-off period, nothing on this page affects that right; you use it through the store, as the seller.
If a fault in the app cost you a subscription period, tell us at [email protected]. We will support your request to the store, and we would rather hear about the fault than not.
Price changes
If we change the price of an existing subscription, the store tells you first and, where its rules require it, asks you to agree before the new price applies. A period you have already paid for is never repriced.
What we can see
Our record of your subscription is whether Plus is active, until when, whether it will renew, which store it came from and its management link. What we hold and why is in the Privacy Policy.
